The Evictions Timeframe Varies Depending on on Several Factors

There is no standardized timeframe to evict a tenant in Nassau County or Suffolk County New York. Each eviction case has many variables that could affect the timeline, including the court house, the judge, the type of eviction proceeding, and the individual circumstances of your case.

Estimated Timeframes

As a general guide, Suffolk County District Courts usually take 30-45 days to resolve an eviction; the Nassau County District Court usually takes 45-60 days; and the Town Justice Courts on the East End usually take about 30 days. Then add at least two weeks to that total for unforeseen issues.

So a rough guide would be:

  • Nassau County: up to 74 days
  • Western Suffolk County: up to 62 days
  • Eastern Suffolk County: up to 47 days

Most landlord-tenant matters will be resolved in less time than this. But it’s helpful to know the maximum time possible so you’re in a better position to prepare and make plans for the property in a worst-case scenario situation.

Since timeframes vary depending on the individual circumstances of your case, it’s helpful to call and speak with a landlord-tenant lawyer. He or she will be able to give you a free consultation over the phone and you can get all of your questions answered right now.
